~ Championing unity through history, culture and food ~

About

Born and raised in Barcelona Spain, for the past seven years, Elisabet Juan Roca (Eli) has been travelling and living in different countries. Tanzania, Italy, China, Thailand and most recently, Hungary. Whilst integrating with local culture and language, Eli rediscovered her passion for food. She connected her experiences (childhood memories in her family-run restaurant, her Bachelors of Humanities and travels) to explore the union of food, culture and history to strengthen connections. Through her passion project, Eli hopes to unite people through the joy of food. She extensively researches food cultures and the history of ingredients, which she plates in her mouth-watering gastronomical blog, Canela Limon Chile (cinnamon, lemon and chilli).

Entrepreneur ~ What’s your definition?

“A person who champions their ideas.”

Characteristic of an Entrepreneur – Your top 3

Creative mind ~ “Dream the possibilities, and the more creative you are, the more flavourful the dish becomes,” Eli explains. Structure ~ Seeing a dream is one thing and bringing it to reality is another kind of effort and action, she says. For the latter, Eli encourages having structure through daily routines. It keeps you accountable for your goals and ensures consistency and a progressive path forward to your destination. Strength ~ Eli refers to mental strength and emphasises this to overcome excuses (of varying degrees) and the perseverance to overcome obstacles.

Entrepreneurship style – plan and fill yourself with inspiration to keep progressing

“Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy. You set your own rules, and there’s always a choice not to do something,” says Eli. To overcome these glitches, Eli makes structures her ally. She allocates time to plan, breaks down tasks to routines, and acts on them. By doing this, Eli minimises the feeling of overwhelm, fuels up on motivation knowing that the small steps support her in doing what she loves.

Find meaning in what you do and be consistent

Eli is aligned with her purpose through a systemic cycle of books, listening to inspiring material and daily routines. “Some discipline helps, especially on days you do not want to do anything at all. It lifts you out of your pickled state and gets you going towards your goal,” says Eli.

What’s the best advice you have received?

“If you believe in it, don’t give up.”

How do you pick yourself up from a not-so-great day?

“I give myself time to rest and start the next day with a better attitude.”

What would you say to someone reading this?

“If you have a project in mind that you feel is valuable, give it a go. Develop skills, take courses, ask for help. Have courage in your growth.”

How would you describe your journey as a quote?

“The food we eat talks about our culture and our traditions. If we knew more, we could see it as a way of bringing us together, united in history, spirit and flavour.”
